Client Resources

Sometimes clients ask me where they can find out more as they travel their healing journey. Here’s a list of books I find exciting:
Books Barb Recommends:
Love, Medicine and Miracles: Lessons Learned about Self-Healing from a Surgeon's Experience with Exceptional Patients by Bernie S. Siegel, MD
This book inspired me greatly. I first received it from my husband’s mother in 1989, but didn’t read it until I was nearing the end of my medical school training. I saw Bernie Siegel speak at a conference and I cried during his whole talk. He spoke about people healing themselves from cancer through imagery and a mind/body connection. The power of humans to heal and not heal is what this book is about with many cool examples.
Spontaneous Healing : How to Discover and Embrace Your Body's Natural Ability to Maintain and Heal Itself by Andrew Weil, MD
This book is clear and straight-forward. It is a bit more how to and less anecdotal than Love, Medicine and Miracles though it does have examples and some stories. This book also speaks of our innate ability to heal ourselves and gives some of the steps that we need to do it. It is about changing diet, stress, mind set, and environment.
Anatomy of the Spirit by Caroline Myss Ph. D.
I have used this book as a guide for over a decade. I refer back to it whenever I am stuck in an area. It is a great guide to understanding the struggles inherent in opening each chakra. It has a good description of energy and how it works in humans and in healing. I have enjoyed listening to Caroline Myss’ talks on tape too.
Energy Medicine by Donna Eden
I use this book as a reference. I love the information that it provides, but I don’t really enjoy the format. I think the book flows best if you don’t read the little boxed information as it doesn’t usually fit with the content of the pages. However, she has some great grounding, energy and chakra opening techniques. The book also has great pictures of energy meridians and charkas and techniques. She has a great 5 minute routine that can be used everyday to keep your energy flowing well.
Hands of Light – A Guide to Healing Through the Human Energy Field by Barbara Ann Brennan
This is the only book that I have seen on this subject that describes and dissects the human energy system in an amazingly detailed way. Barbara Brennan can see in a way most of us can’t and she has pictures to help us see what she sees. It is a great book for people interested in learning energy healing though a little much if you are just wanting a general sense of how energy healing works. This book is very based in the spirit world and how to use it in energy healing. Barbara Brennan has a full school with college credits in Florida.
The Courage to Heal - Third Edition - Revised and Expanded: A Guide for Women Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse by Ellen Bass and Laura Davis
This book played a huge part in my healing journey. I never have read it cover to cover. I would read in it little sections that pertained to me and then deal with whatever it brought up for me that day. It is a heavy, hopeful, helpful and amazing book on this subject.
Molecules of Emotion: The Science Behind Mind-Body Medicine by Candace B. Pert, PhD
This book satisfies my left/analytical brain and my right/non-linear brain. Candace Pert was a National Institute of Health researcher. The book is a bit bio-chemically, but is very interesting for us science types. The book tells of her amazing biochemical research in emotion, brain receptors, and AIDS. It also tells of her trials and troubles within the male dominated world of high power science and research. This book really influenced my thinking and helped ease the struggle between my science and spirit sides.
